Mechanical Depravity
Full Game Document Available Upon Request
Mechanical Depravity is a game concept established by me for my second year portfolio piece. My aim was deliver a game concept piece that was professional and capable of being considered of industry value.
Throughout the assembly of this document, it was paramount to not only relay all details pertaining to this game, but to also make the document easy to view while likewise producing a full understanding of the game to the reader.
In order to achieve the goals stated above, I cultivated new and polished old skills within Word. These new skills were as follows:
Headings and Subheadings
To produce a cohesive game design document it is necessary to have clearly labeled sections. I achieved this by using headings and subheadings. This made the writing process easier and more organized and better helped the reader stay focused and on track.
Header and Footer
I also utilized the header and footer features within word. The header was used to clearly state the purpose of the design document. I used the footer or footnotes to number and label each page clearly and then listed the corresponding information within the index. This supplies the reader with quick and easy means to access specific parts of the document.
Idex
I included an index towards the beginning of this game document. Again, this was a feature that I had never employed before. I came to realize that it is a vital tool that benefits not only the reader but the author as well. An index provides a quick reference point, while also, as stated above, supplies quick and easy access to specific points within the document.
Images
When viewing this document you’ll notice various images strewn throughout. This aids the reader in better understanding a mechanic or feature that has been described in the text. I believe visual components are crucial, in that the reader can see your perception of a character or world, and thus draws them further into the document and game.
Game Cover
At the beginning of this document I placed a game cover that I fashioned within Photoshop. It might have been easier to use a simple title or heading, but I felt that it needed to be more personalize, while also giving the reader a sneak peek of what the document entailed.
